Rockenmoor / Fuchsberg is the name of a former nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Elsfleth in the Wesermarsch district .
The former nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 183 is 155 hectares and was for the most part part of the FFH area "Ipweger Moor, Gellener Torfmöörte". The area has been under nature protection since December 15, 1987. On December 22nd, 2018 the newly designated nature reserve “ Gellener Torfmöörte with Rockenmoor and Fuchsberg ” opened. The responsible lower nature conservation authority was the Wesermarsch district.
The area, which consists of two parts, is located between Oldenburg and Elsfleth on the edge of the Geest in the transition area to the Wesermarsch . It was a bog area as part of the Ipweger Moores under protection.
The former nature reserve is traversed by the Ipweger Moorkanal. In the area north of the Ipweger Moorkanals there are high moor grasslands and fallow land . In order to protect ground- and bush-breeding bird species, these may not be cultivated during the breeding season. The moor heaths and moor forests south of the Ipweger Moorkanals have partly remained uncultivated, partly changed by hand peat cuttings . Here, as in the Fuchsberg area, the moor can regenerate.
In addition to the Ipweger Moorkanal, which drains via the Moorriemer Canal to the Hunte and Weser , the area is also drained via numerous ditches .
