History and equipment
founding
The date of a first documentary evidence is not certain, but is believed to be in the early Middle Ages . The church was under the patronage of St. James .
The building closes off the old town to the southwest. Originally the church was also connected to the upper gate , which was demolished in the 19th century.
Modern times
In 1519, before the Reformation , a late Gothic- inspired new building took place. The enlarged choir still bears witness to this today .
The baroque period brought structural changes in 1722, which were reflected in particular in the octagonal top of the church tower and the onion dome . In the late 19th century a neo-Gothic rood screen was installed.
The church was last restored in 1980/81.
William Wolfensberger
In the closing years of the First World War until his death in 1918, William Wolfensberger worked at the church . The William Wolfensberger Archive for scientific studies is located in the rectory near the church .
