history

The former cemetery was built in 1854 for the Protestant workers of the Altenböddeken glassworks . Since most of the cemeteries in the Archdiocese of Paderborn were reserved for the Catholic population, even after the closure of the glass factory, people of Protestant faith from the region, but also from more distant places, were buried in the so-called glassblower cemetery. The last funeral took place in 1928. As early as 1984, consideration was given to reopening the cemetery. However, these plans were initially dropped and only implemented in August 2008. Some of the old tombs of the glassblower cemetery still stand today.

funeral

Only organically degradable urns are buried in the cemetery. It should have space for up to 600 urns. The deceased is commemorated with a granite slab with the name, date of birth and date of death on it. These granite slabs are placed on two sandstone pillars that are distributed over the site, which then grow upwards. The rest period is initially 20 years, but can be extended.
