Evangelical consistory in the Hansaviertel
The Evangelical Consistory in the Hansaviertel was an administrative building in the Berlin district of Hansaviertel , Bachstrasse 1, at the corner of Altonaer Strasse. The consistory of the Evangelical Church in Berlin-Brandenburg was housed in the building until 2000 . The building on Bachstrasse was designed by the architects Georg Heinrichs and Hans Christian Müller and erected between 1968 and 1971. As an important part of the building ensemble in the Hansaviertel, the demolition in 2011 was considered controversial.
The polygonal floor plan, which was based on the shape of the Y, was striking. The outer facade consisted of massive aluminum plates. The windows were framed with neoprene rings and could be tilted vertically outwards like a ship. The shape of the panels and the windows were carefully coordinated. The design was called spaceship architecture . The facade concept was based on the body and spaceship construction. The building housed the top church management, office and other administrative rooms, halls, a sound studio and a dining room with ancillary rooms on the 6th floor. The rooms were arranged so that the main line of sight was oriented towards the Spree. At the same time, the traffic noise was largely shielded.
