Peter Gabriel: Eve is a multimedia production by the rock musician Peter Gabriel from 1996. It is a multimedia application for the computer. In its time, the project, which cost more than two million dollars, was way ahead of the demands of the time and placed high demands on home computers. The songs “Come talk to me”, “Shaking the Tree”, “In your Eyes” and “The Last Temptation of Christ” serve as the basis.

content

The plot is initially based on the story of paradise. Adam (recognizable as Peter Gabriel) and Eve are separated and driven from Paradise. The goal is to get back there at the end of the game. On the way there must be traversed three landscapes (mud, garden and industry / profit). “On the hike through evolution, the relationship between the sexes is paramount. Artists, philosophers, scientists and Peter Gabriel himself give their thoughts on the subject. [...] Fragments of a song are hidden in every landscape. You have to collect them and put them together in your own mix in the virtual recording studio. Each sound element is also a visual part of a video created parallel to the mix. Your own creations can be saved and reloaded. "

“After man was driven out of paradise, he became a collector. He learned to turn every stone over and to recognize the world, in the end even himself. That is what 'Eve' is about [...] The CD-ROM presents itself as an almost endless collection of puzzle-like scenes. A bizarre world needs to be patiently explored. Everywhere sounds and tools have to be discovered and put together, otherwise it won't go any further. "

Game principle and technology

Eve presents his game world in the form of photos and photo collages, some of which are supplemented by hand-drawn elements. In locations larger than the screen, the camera section can be rotated with the mouse along the X axis. As in a point-and-click adventure , hotspots can be activated on the screen with the mouse. The systematic activation of hotspots, sometimes in a certain order, as well as the solving of combination puzzles drive the action forward.

Production notes

60 programmers, designers, and artists worked on Eve for two years . The game CD contains 22,000 photographs, 80 minutes of video material and 45 minutes of music.
