Sven Evert Gunnarsson (born December 28, 1929 in Ljungskile ) is a former Swedish rower who was European champion in 1949 and won an Olympic silver medal in 1956.

Career

Evert Gunnarsson and Bernt Torberntsson finished in two without a helmsman at the Olympic Games in London in 1948, third place in the preliminary run and second place in the hope run. So they did not reach the finals of the best three boats. In 1949, on the Bosbaan near Amsterdam , the two won the European championship in two without a helmsman, ahead of the Belgians and the Italians. In 1952, the two competed at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. In the run-up they won ahead of the boat from France, but only finished third in the semifinals. In the repechage, the French won ahead of the Swedes and advanced to the final.

Gunnarsson, who rowed for the Roddklubben Three Towns in Kungälv, won the silver medal in the four with helmsman together with Olof Larsson , Gösta Eriksson , Ivar Aronsson and helmsman Bertil Göransson behind the Argentines and in front of the Finns at the European Championships in Ghent in 1955 . All five also belonged to the Swedish eighth , which also won silver behind the boat from the Soviet Union.

In the following year, the five Swedes also competed in both boat classes at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 . In the foursome they won the silver medal behind the Italians and in front of the Finns. The Swedish eight finished fourth behind boats from the United States, Canada and Australia.

Evert Gunnarsson won a total of 25 Swedish championship titles.
