Evmenios from Lefke

Evmenios von Lefke , real name Georgios Tamiolakis (born November 26, 1945 in Agios Charalambos in Lasithi on Crete ) is the Vicar Bishop of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Germany of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople .

Life

In 1959 he entered the monastery "Kroustalenia" in Lasithi as a novice and in 1964 became a monk. After his deacon ordination on December 23, 1964, he was bishop deacon of the Bishop of Chania until 1976. During this time he studied at the theological faculty of the University of Athens. He was ordained a priest on April 3, 1977, and then made an archimandrite . In 1977 he came to Aachen for postgraduate studies in sociology and education and from then on served the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Germany, as a pastor in the parish of St. Dimitrios in Aachen .

After the bishop's election on December 22, 1993 by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate with the title of the venerable diocese of Lefke, he was consecrated bishop on January 15, 1994.

By resolution of all canonical Orthodox bishops residing in Germany, he took over the management of the “Department for Schools and Religious Education of the Orthodox Churches in Germany” from 2002 to 2006. From 1981 to 1996 he was editor of the quarterly magazine of the metropolis called "Orthodoxe Gegenwart". Bishop Evmenios is a founding member of the relief organizations We for Rwanda and For a New Life . He is a member of the international Ecumenical Movement of Bishops - Friends of the Focolare Movement and a member of the Executive Committee of the Klaus Hemmerle Order .

Evmenios von Lefke was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 1995 for his contribution to the successful integration of the Greeks into German society and the cooperation between Christians.
