Evoked language diagnosis of grammatical skills

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ESGRAF test is a special language performance test that examines grammatical disorders in children and adolescents and derives therapy and learning goals from it. ESGRAF stands for Evoked Language Diagnosis of Grammatical Skills . The test was developed by Hans-Joachim Motsch , a professor for speech-impaired education who is currently researching and teaching at the University of Cologne and the Düsseldorf Academy - School for Speech Therapy .

ESGRAF

The first version of the test appeared in 1999. The target group was “four to ten year old children with language acquisition disorders who showed recognizable abnormalities in acquiring the grammatical system of their reference language”. The test examined the child's speech behavior using five playful speech stimuli and was to be recorded by video camera and later evaluated. The grammar fields syntax ( relative clause , indirect interrogative clause and temporal clause ), subjective-verb inversion and subject-verb congruence were examined diagnostically . Optionally, the complex syntax ( conditional clause ), the future tense and the subjunctive could also be examined.

Over time, the test was further refined and expanded to include three additional tests, which also included secondary school .

ESGRAF-R

In 2008 the test was reissued. The revised test was now modularized and divided into five basic modules, which could be expanded by up to ten additional modules. Like ESGRAF, the revised test also placed value on a playful survey situation. A total of 120–140 items are queried using a circus tent . This test should also be evaluated using a video recording. The target group was expanded to include four to 16 year olds. The duration of the test itself is 25 minutes, the evaluation time should be around 35 minutes.

ESGRAF 4-8

In 2016, Prof. Motsch further developed the ESGRAF-R into "ESGRAF 4-8". The test is now standardized and normalized. The ESGRAF-R has been expanded to include subtest 6, which allows the examination of formally more complex and cognitively more demanding structures (5 passive sentences, 8 items for genitive control) in school age (from 7; 0). The grammar test does not have to be carried out with all subtests. Each subtest is standardized and there are separate norms within subtests 1, 4 and 6.

reception

The ESGRAF and the ESGRAF-R are standard tests in pedagogy for the speech-impaired and in speech therapy . Motsch himself described the test in Manfred Grohnfeldt's standard work textbook on speech therapy and speech therapy. Volume 3: Diagnostics, prevention and evaluation as one of the first to overcome the “randomness of free spontaneous speech samples ”.
