Hansjörg Eger (2018)

Hansjörg Eger (* 1964 in Speyer ) is a German politician and was Lord Mayor of his hometown from 2011 to 2018 .

Life

Eger was born in 1964 as the son of the Speyer historian and archivist Wolfgang Eger . After graduating from high school in Speyer in 1983, Eger studied law in Heidelberg and Edinburgh . In 1990 he passed the first state examination in Heidelberg and the second in 1994. In the same year he was employed by a law firm, and two years later he became a partner . In 2002 he became a specialist lawyer for labor law . Hansjörg Eger is married and has one son.

Eger belonged to the SPD for several years , but left there again. In Speyer he was the vice chairman of the tourist association and president of the Lions club . In the local elections in 2009 , Eger ran as a non-party member of the CDU's list and moved up to the Speyer city council in February 2010 . When he was elected Lord Mayor of Speyer in the same year, he was an official CDU candidate. He was supported by the FDP and the Speyer voter group. Eger won the runoff election with just under 50.7 percent against the SPD candidate. He took office on January 1, 2011 and after the election also became a member of the CDU. In the 2018 mayor election, Eger lost to Stefanie Seiler (SPD), the handover took place at the turn of the year. Since February 2019 he has been employed as a specialist lawyer for the law firm PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal in Stuttgart .

Hansjörg Eger is a member of the board of trustees of the ÖDP- affiliated Foundation for Ecology and Democracy .
