Stefanie Seiler (born August 30, 1983 in Speyer ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She has been Lord Mayor of Speyer since January 2, 2019 .

Life

Stefanie Seiler was born as the daughter of a building contractor and a geriatric nurse. After graduating from the Nikolaus-von-Weis-Gymnasium Speyer, she began studying sociology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , which she successfully completed; During her studies, she also worked in her father's company and as a research assistant at the university. In 2011, she also completed a supplementary course with a focus on public tasks, organization and procedures at the German University of Administrative Sciences in her home town.

She has one daughter and has been married since August 2019.

Seiler joined the SPD in 2002 and became chairwoman of the Speyer Jusos in the same year , which she remained until 2014. In 2012 she was the education secretary of the Juso regional association Rhineland-Palatinate. Since 2011 she has been secretary of the SPD sub-district of Vorderpfalz, and in April 2013 the Speyer city association elected her as its new chairwoman. At the state level she has been a member of the SPD party council since 2011; on November 24, 2018, the state party conference also elected her to the state executive committee of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate .

From 2009 to 2015, Seiler was a member of the Speyer city council - of which from 2012 as deputy parliamentary group leader - and in 2015 became a full-time councilor of the city administration. Department III , which she heads, includes the areas of responsibility for security, order, civil services and the environment. In 2012 she took part in the communal academy of the SPD party school. She was a candidate for the SPD for the mayoral elections in 2018. In the runoff election on June 10, 2018, she prevailed against incumbent Hansjörg Eger (CDU) with 52.4 percent of the votes cast .
