Ewald Fromming

Ewald Frömming (born August 11, 1899 - September 19, 1960 in Berlin ) was a German malacologist . He mainly dealt with land snails and freshwater snails.

Life

Fromming's year was drafted into the First World War. He was a soldier until 1919 and then returned to Berlin, where he began as a volunteer in industry. Studying was out of the question and so he worked in an industrial company and only worked on the research of molluscs on the side. He was particularly interested in ecological issues. After many publications in the journal Internationale Revue , directed by Richard Woltereck , of the entire hydrobiology and hydrography , he was able to summarize and publish his work in books after the Second World War . He had recorded many observations in the field and studies in the laboratory about the way of life and nutrition of the various bottom-living and bottom-dwelling snails. Little was known about their biocenoses in Fromming's time, but there was great interest in insights into these connections.

Fromming became known beyond the borders of Germany with his comprehensive works on land gastropods and freshwater snails, which each comprised over 400 pages. Another book on the behavior of snails to the plants in their environment came out only after Fromming's death.
