The Ewald Schillig GmbH & Co. KG was a German upholstered furniture manufacturer based in Upper Franconia Ebersdorf . The family-run company designed and produced sofas, seating landscapes and armchairs with comfort-supporting functions and sold them worldwide.

history

In the war and post-war years in the mid-1940s, when there was a great shortage of practical items, Ewald Schillig, brother of Willi Schillig , used the traditional weaving trade in Upper Franconia to meet the demand. He made wicker chests with padded lids that met people's needs for seating and storage space. With the increasing demand for everyday products, Ewald Schillig expanded the production of hand-made basketry and founded his own company in Ebersdorf in 1945.

The entrepreneur reacted to the birth boom in the economic boom by manufacturing prams.

In the 1960s, Schillig's daughter Traude married the son of Leonhard Henning, a manufacturer of upholstered furniture from Weidhausen , who has been making wickerwork and prams since the 1930s. The two companies in the same sector moved closer and closer together until Schillig's son-in-law Horst Henning took over his father's business in the 1980s and merged it with the Ewald Schillig plant.

In 2016, Philipp Henning, the fourth generation of the family, joined the management. The company's headquarters are still in Ebersdorf with around 250 employees. In addition to nine production sites in six countries, the manufacturer's sales network also includes around 1,000 specialist dealers in ten countries (as of 12/2017). In addition to the production for the in-house brands, Ewald Schillig is also a supplier of in-house models for the Mondo, Dieter Knoll, Musterring and Contur brands . On July 13, 2018, Ewald Schillig GmbH & Co. KG filed for bankruptcy. Before the bankruptcy, the company had 220 employees and generated almost 68 million euros. On September 25, 2018, the insolvency administrator announced the closure of the company. A takeover offer by GrundbesitzPartner AG failed after the takeover contract had been signed because the company owners had not signed the lease for the property they owned.

Lück GmbH, held by the EuroComfort Group, claims to have secured all brand and model rights at the end of March. A legal dispute with the (not insolvent) sister company Ewald Schillig Brand GmbH & Co. KG is currently pending.
