The ewt multimedia GmbH & Co. KG went from the companies ewt electrical and news gmbh , ewtcom (formerly Siemens broadband networks) and tss out. In addition, ewt broadband networks (formerly Bosch broadband networks) was acquired.

Initially the sole owners were the Stritzl family, based in Augsburg .

In December 2005, an investor consortium consisting of Aletheia Capital Partners Limited, ABN AMRO Ventures BV, Kingsbridge Capital Management Ltd., Quilvest, Alcentra and Sociéte Générale acquired over 50 percent of the shares for 629 million euros from the owner family. In April 2007 the remaining shares were taken over by the Stritzl family for EUR 80 million. There were Escaline Holding and the Orion Cable GmbH formed.

In November 2006, the investors also acquired a large part of the NE4 networks from Tele Columbus . This made ewt part of the Tele Columbus Group.

Ewt multimedia concluded framework agreements on broadband networks with various housing associations, and the tenants of the apartments were automatically supplied with cable TV.

Before the merger with Tele Columbus , the value of ewt multimedia was around 700 million euros , and the company employed around 500 people.

After ewt had cut around 200 employees and further job cuts had been announced, the number of employees was finally around 350. ewt sold its cable networks to local cable network operators (Kabel Deutschland in Bavaria, Kabel BW in Baden-Württemberg) and was In 2006 it was finally merged with the parent company Tele Columbus , which has been selling its end customer products under the Pÿur brand since October 4, 2017 .
