The Exabyte Corporation was an American supplier of magnetic tape storage solutions and an innovative pioneer in this field.

The company was founded in 1985 by Kelly Beavers, Juan Rodriguez and Harry Hinz and introduced its EXB-8200 magnetic tape system in 1987, which was based on the Data8 format (8 millimeter bandwidth). In 1996 the Mammoth system was introduced, which also had a band width of 8 mm. Most of the magnetic tape systems sold were used by corporate customers for data backup . In 2001, Exabyte merged with Ecrix , founded in 1996 by Kelly Beavers and Juan Rodriguez, two of the three Exabyte founders. Through this merger, Exabyte came into possession of the VXA technology. Exabyte's company history ended in 2006 with a takeover by Tandberg Data .
