The Tandberg Data GmbH , headquartered in Dortmund specializes in data storage as streamers ( tape drives ) and the only manufacturer of drives for the formats QIC (also known as SLR called), VXA and LTO , tape libraries - the so-called autoloaders , NAS devices, and RDX - Removable drives.

Tandberg Data once manufactured computer terminals such as the "TDV 2200", keyboards and other hardware and has offices in Oslo - Norway , Japan , Singapore and Westminster (Colorado) in the USA.

history

  • The " Tandbergs Radiofabrikk " was founded on January 25, 1933 by Vebjørn Tandberg in Oslo
  • In 1970 Tandberg manufactured its first own tape drives
  • In 1979 the original "Tandbergs Radiofabrikk" was split up into different companies.
  • In 1981 Tandberg became a founding member of the QIC Committee for the standardization of interfaces and recording formats, and produced the first own tape drives for data.
  • In 1984 Tandberg Data went public.
  • In 2003, Tandberg Storage and its subsidiary O-Mass were divided into separate companies and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Tandberg Data became the largest shareholder with a 33.48% stake in Tandberg Storage.
  • On August 30, 2006, Tandberg Data purchased the assets of Exabyte Corporation, including the VXA backup format. Combined sales for 2006 were expected to be USD 215 million.
  • On May 15, 2007, Tandberg Data sold all of the shares in Tandberg Storage.
  • On January 9, 2008, Pat Clarke became CEO of Tandberg Data.
  • On September 12, 2008, Tandberg Data announced it would buy back Tandberg Storage.
  • On April 24, 2009, Tandberg Data ASA and Tandberg Storage filed for bankruptcy .
  • On May 19, 2009, Tandberg Data founded the holding company TAD Holding AS , which became the owner of all subsidiaries of Tandberg Data and Tandberg Storage. Cyrus Capital became the largest shareholder. Business in Norway was continued by the newly founded Tandberg Data Norge AS.
  • In May 2011, Tandberg Data took over the RDX removable disk system from ProStor Systems
  • On January 22, 2014, Tandberg Data was acquired by Overland Storage . Overland Storage itself was founded by Sphere 3D Corp. at the end of 2014. taken over, as its subsidiaries today (2016) both operate.
