RDX (storage medium)

RDX is an on removable disks in hard drives based technology backup format , developed by ProStor Systems Incorporated in 2004, the magnetic tape technology to replace, and in May 2011 by Tandberg Data was acquired.

RDX consists of the RDX cartridges as removable media and the RDX dock. RDX cartridges are 2.5 inches - Serial ATA hard drives, advertised with an impact resistance of free fall from one meter onto a concrete floor, a service life up to 30 years and a transmission speed of up to 650 GB / hour.

Storage sizes of each hard drive-based RDX cartridge are 160 GB (no longer sold), 320 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB, 1.5 TB, 2 TB, 3 TB, 4 TB or 5 TB. RDX cartridges based on SSDs have capacities of 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB, RDX WORM cartridges have capacities of 320 GB, 500 GB or 1 TB. Not all sizes are available today (2016) from the original supplier Tandberg or from third-party suppliers.
