Excalibur - Secrets of the Dark Forest is located in the Adventure Lagoon themed area , which is behind the Nickland .

history

The facility was opened in 1996 in what was then Warner Bros. Movie World under the name The Neverending Story . The theming was based on the film of the same name based on the book by Michael Ende . During the journey, visitors encountered many characters in the form of animatronics from novels and films.

Due to the takeover of the park by Palamon Capital / StarParks in 2004 and the associated loss of license, the attraction had to be renamed and redesigned. All licensed figures and other design elements have been removed. Between 2005 and 2017, the attraction was operated license-free under the name Mystery River , whereby it was a water ride with fictional characters.

Since the second re-theming in 2018, the attraction has been operated under the name Excalibur - Secrets of the Dark Forest . This time it's about the sword Excalibur , which has disappeared and has to be found again by visitors while passing the magical river and the dark forest.

Course of the journey

In the waiting area, visitors are greeted via a projection by the magician Merlin, who informs them that the Excalibur sword has disappeared and must be recovered. There is a sword holder on the wall under the projection surface - without a sword. After the visitors have boarded the boat, it is pulled up on a conveyor belt, whereby the magician Merlin appears on four consecutive screens and says: From here on you are on your own. The muddling creatures of the dark forest lurk on the banks of this magical river. Your courage will guide you. Follow the flow. Hold on and stand firm. Then the journey starts outside over the artificial river and then past the big stone face, the giant mushroom, the unicorn and under the tunnel to the cobweb forest. The boat then passes over a long and large eel, which splashes visitors with water over its mouth. This is followed by a section with cut trees and hanging skeletons before going back into the building. After a short drive in the dark, you will pass an illuminated ivory tower with the Excalibur sword at the foot. So the missing sword was found again. Water fountains appear for the celebration and the soundtrack is played. Finally, King Arthur thanks the visitors, who stands by the river with sword in hand: My knights! You made it. You have regained Excalibur and defeated the power of the dark forest.
