Executive Order 12333

The Executive Order 12333 is a presidential decree of US president Ronald Reagan on 4 December 1981 in which he the powers and responsibilities of the national intelligence services expanded. In addition, Reagan instructed the heads of the US federal authorities to cooperate with the foreign intelligence service CIA , which provided for the transfer of data.

In December 2013, the NSA stated that this decree would allow it to monitor cell phones globally.
