Stanley Solomon

Stanley Solomon (born April 3, 1917 in Toronto ; † February 8, 2015 there ) was a Canadian violist and music manager.

Solomon studied violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music from 1927 to 1939 with Luigi von Kunits , Vino Harisay and Elie Spivak . From 1939 to 1942 he trained as a violist with Max Aronoff , Louis Bailly and Oscar Shumsky at the Curtis Institute . From 1942 to 1944 he was concertmaster and conductor with the RCAF Blackouts , an entertainment troupe for the Canadian Air Force.

From 1946 Solomon was a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra , from 1949 to 1983 as principal violist, then as emeritus until 1988. He was also a member of the Hart House Orchestra from 1946 to 1958 , of which he became manager in 1966. As a chamber musician he played the viola from 1946 to 1958 in the Parlow String Quartet founded by Kathleen Parlow .

From 1963 to 1969, Solomon headed the Stanley Solomon Concert Artists Management , which represented musicians such as Howell Glynne , Hyman and Erica Goodman , Sheila Henig , Daryl Irvine , Mary Simmons , Steven Staryk and David Zafer . From 1986 he taught at the Royal Conservatory. His children Maribeth and Lenny Solomon also embarked on a musical career.
