Erica Goodman

Erica Goodman (born January 19, 1948 in Toronto ) is a Canadian harpist.

The daughter of the violinist Hyman Goodman began piano training at the age of ten, and from the age of eleven she also played the harp. She initially had lessons from Charles Kleinsteuber , Judy Loman and Carol Baum and was a student of Marilyn Costello at the Curtis Institute from 1967-69 . As a teenager she already took part in recordings in Toronto under the direction of Igor Stravinsky .

From 1962 to 1966 she was second harpist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra , of which she was again from 1969 to 1973. In 1969 she made her debut as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra in Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp. From 1970 she formed the Aitken-Goodman Duo with the flautist Robert Aitken . The duo went on a concert tour with the chamber music group Tashi in 1976 and received the Grand Prix du Disque Canada in 1980 for the LP Flute and Harp . With the New Music Concerts Ensemble she recorded two albums with compositions by Toru Takemitsu and George Crumb .

Other chamber music partners of Goodman included the oboist Lawrence Cherney , the horn player Sören Hermansson , the Trio Toronto , the Galliard Ensemble and the Trio Lyra . She has also performed with musicians such as Percy Faith , Tony Bennett , Henry Mancini , Hagood Hardy and Gene DiNovi . In 1976 she gave the world premiere of Oskar Morawetz 's Harp Concerto in Guelph , and in 1979 Milton Barnes ' Variations for solo harp. In 2008 she recorded Elliott Carter's Mosaic on the Naxos label .
