Exoprosopa jacchus is a fly from the family of the Wollschweber (Bombyliidae).

features

The flies reach a body length of about 10 millimeters. The short-nosed species is characteristically brightly colored. The head is brown-black and has a pointed face. This and the edge of the mouth are yellow-brown. The face and the lower part of the forehead are covered with golden-yellow scaly hair, the scales on the back of the head are lighter. The thorax is colored brown-black and drawn with lines of yellow and white scales and scale hair. There are silver-white tufts of scales behind the shoulders. The abdomen is hairy black on the sides, on the second to sixth tergite there are spots with yellow scale hair . The wings are spotted black and light.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed from the Mediterranean to Central Asia. They are found in sandy and stony areas, especially in late summer.
