Expert Field Medical Badge
The Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB) is a United States Army badge that has been awarded since 1965.
The badge is awarded to medical personnel in the U.S. Army Armed Forces who have successfully completed a military and medical testing program. The badge is also awarded to members of friendly armed forces after passing an examination.
The award corresponding to the EFMB for medical personnel actively deployed in the war is the “Combat Medical Badge”, while the “Expert Infantryman Badge” is awarded to infantry troops in the non-medical area.
With a success rate of 15.3% (2008), the “Expert Field Medical Badge” is one of the most difficult to obtain and most prestigious badges of the US Army.
exams
In order to obtain the EFMB, the following services have to be provided since 2008:
- Written test: 60 multiple choice questions, at least 75% of which must be answered correctly
- Army Physical Fitness Test
- Examination on the M16 or M4 rifle : Proof of standard qualification in the last twelve months
- Orientation march by day and by night
- March: 12 miles (19.3 km) with military equipment, luggage and weapons in a maximum of three hours
- Proof of a certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Successful completion of twelve "Tactical Combat Casualty Care Tasks", including:
- Triage on the battlefield
- Using hemostatic measures (e.g. a tourniquet )
- Creation of intravenous infusions
- Treat open abdominal wounds
- Evacuate wounded from vehicles
- Loading the wounded into transport vehicles (e.g. helicopters, ambulances)
- Successful completion of ten "Warrior Skills Tasks", including:
- Put on NBC protective clothing
- Self decontamination
- Troubleshooting, dismantling and reassembling on the M16 or M4 rifle
- Overcome obstacles
- Response to direct enemy fire
- Successful completion of five "Communications Tasks", including:
- Assembling and commissioning radio devices and encryption devices
- Transmission of a MedEvac request, an ABC threat report and an ordnance report
