history

In 1980, Limited Brands opened its first store under the Limited-Express brand in Chicago . At that time it mainly specialized in women's fashion. By the mid-1980s, over 250 stores had been opened and the range was expanded to include men's fashion. In 2007, the former Express brand was converted into a company, Express Parent LLC, and 67% of the shares were sold to the private equity company Golden Gate Capital . After the transaction ended, Golden Gate Capital owned a total of 75% of the Express shares. In May 2010 the company was floated on the stock exchange. In 2011 Limited Brands sold its remaining shares in Express, and Golden Gate Capital has not held any shares since 2012.
