Extremely beautiful! - Finally a new life! is a German-language docu-soap from the television station RTL II . The first episode aired on April 28, 2009.
concept
In each episode, a person is accompanied as they perform several cosmetic surgeries. Doctors involved are interviewed and the aesthetic interventions are presented. The treated person is far from their friends and families at this time. At the end of the show, after the cosmetic surgery, the camera team accompanies them one last time as the people meet their family and friends. After each season, which alternately contains between 8 and 17 episodes, there is another reunion with the patients. So far, four seasons have been broadcast (as of June 2013).
In one episode, a woman did not like the result after the styling, she initially stopped the beautification, but continued after 5 months and had her own ideas implemented.
criticism
The show has often come under criticism due to its very uncritical attitude towards plastic surgery . According to critics, the program suggests problem solving through cosmetic surgery alone. Holger Kreymeier said in an article in his TV review magazine :
“RTL 2 suggests you only need new breasts and a new nose, and your messed up life is all right again. But it's not that easy! "
The Süddeutsche Zeitung describes the show as "porn of the precariat".
“The show lives from tricking its protagonists into believing that TV is God who frees them from lifelong misery. The one who suffers is the one who suffers anyway. "
The star titled the show as "Germany's next ugliness".
"The subtitle of the new series," Finally a New Life "is misleading. Ultimately, there is only a new breast, a new nose or a new set of teeth from RTL2. With the "new life" the candidates are largely left alone. According to the broadcaster, there is only partial psychological or medical care for the candidates beyond the shooting time - with lengthy orthodontic treatments. "
team
A team of more than 20 accompanies the patients.
