from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Various extreme varieties and musical genres of metal are subsumed under the umbrella term Extreme Metal .

Extreme Metal is an umbrella term for sub-genres such as Thrash Metal , Death Metal and Black Metal . The name already suggests the most important musical parameters: high tempos as well as varied tempo changes, etc. Ä. are characteristic of those sub-styles. Thank Substilen of Extreme Metal is the guttural singing in common that often especially as shouting or growling is called. It is not “sung” melodically in the traditional sense, but rather roared. At the lyrical level there are often also extreme elements and themes, such as the explicit depiction of violence , misanthropy or religious and sometimes political views as in the case of National Socialist Black Metal .

Occasionally, the term Extreme Metal is also understood as a separate sub-style for bands that mix elements of different extreme sub-styles.
