Ey Iran

Ey Iran ( Persian ای ایران, 'O Iran!') Is a well-known anthem in honor of Iran . The text was written by Hossein Gol-e Golab in 1944. The music for Ey Iran was composed by Ruhollah Khaleghi (1906–1965). Ey Iran was sung in public for the first time by Gholam Hossein Banan .

History of origin

In 1941, as part of the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran, the country was occupied by British and Soviet troops. To secure the Persian Corridor , an Allied supply line from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea, US troops also moved into Iran. Hossein Gol-e Golab is said to have said:

“The marching steps of the invading armies in the streets were enough to shake up any patriot. You inspired me to write this hymn. Professor Ruhollah Khaleghi wrote the music. And despite all political resistance, this hymn found its way into people's hearts and souls. "

Significance for the period after 1979

After Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi left Iran in January 1979, Ey Iran was temporarily used as an unofficial anthem until a new official anthem ( Soroud-e Melli-ye Dschomhuri-ye Eslami-e Iran ) was established after the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been.

As in the occupation in World War II , the anthem still speaks to the patriotic feelings of Iranians today.
