Ferry connection

The Elbe ferry connects two sections of the state road 223 (L 223) at Elbe kilometer 550.0. With the Darchau – Neu Darchau ferry connection , it creates the direct traffic connections between the Neuhaus district on the right-hand side of the Elbe and the Lüneburg district on the left-hand side of the Elbe . The Schiff Amt Neuhaus has been used on this ferry station since 1990 .

The ferry runs all year round and continuously crosses between the two landing stages. A crossing takes about five minutes. On weekdays the ferry runs between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m., on Sundays and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., in summer until 9.30 p.m.

history

A ferry has been operating between Bleckede and Neu Bleckede since at least 1888. At first it was a so-called Schrick ferry, in which the crossing was accomplished with stakes or oars. In 1897 a motor launch was bought for hauling the ferry . The Prahmfähre was replaced by a new one in 1911, which was still towed by a barge. This traffic was temporarily maintained until the end of the war in 1945, after which the ferry traffic was interrupted and stopped due to the division of Germany.

With the opening of the borders between the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic, the ferry connection between Bleckede in the Lüneburg district and Neu Bleckede, which at that time still belonged to the Hagenow district, was resumed, initially with a ferry service borrowed from Zollenspieker . After obtaining several offers, it was decided in the spring of 1990 to take over the ferry God med ons IV from Cuijk and to set up a permanent ferry connection between Bleckede and Neu Bleckede.
