Felling jacks are tools that are used when harvesting weak wood . You should use leverage to make the tree to be felled tip over in the intended direction over the hinge .

execution

Felling jacks are made of high-strength steel , which means that the weight can be kept low. The handle is made of plastic , leather or a similar, warm material. Commercially available felling jacks are between 80 and 130 cm long. As a rule, they are also provided with a movable hook that makes it easier to turn logs.

application

Using the felling lifter

The felling lifter is only used up to a trunk diameter of 25 cm. The felling technique differs somewhat from the usual technique with wedges . The felling notch and the hinge are created according to the direction of fall and hanging, but the felling cut is carried out in two stages: First, about two thirds of the felling cut is sawed with the chainsaw , then the felling lifter is inserted or hammered in. Only then is the felling cut continued below the first cut. If the cut were to be cut at the same height, the saw chain would be very likely to be damaged by the steel plate of the felling lifter. Another option for avoiding saw damage is to make an inclined cut during the second cut so that the chain cannot come into contact with the felling lifter. After completing the felling cut, the tree can be tipped over the hinge by pushing or pulling the felling lifter.

Application of the log turner

The log turner supports the turning of the lying or hanging log around the longitudinal axis. With the movable hook of the felling lifter , this hook replaces the function of the edge ring . The hook is placed on the bark of the trunk above the lifting plate . If the handle of the felling lifter is pulled, the plate of the felling lifter is supported on the trunk and pulls the hook deep into the wood. Thanks to the long lever arm, trunks that have caught in the branches of other trees can be turned relatively easily and usually come down completely. The trimming of trees lying on the ground is also made easier by shearing the branches under the trunk.
