The Greek sports club Egaleo AO ( Greek Αθλητικός Όμιλος Αιγάλεω , internationally often also FC Egaleo ) emerged in 1946 from a merger of four clubs, u. a. from the Athlitiki Enosi Ierapoleaos association founded in 1931 by Dimitrios Chaniotis and Georgios Aronis . The association is based in the suburb of the same name Egaleo, west of downtown Athens . The club colors are blue and white. The most important sports departments of the club include football and basketball .

Soccer

In 1961 the club was promoted to the first Greek league for the first time. The biggest success so far was fourth place in the first Greek league in the 1970/71 season, as well as the UEFA Cup participation in the 2004/05 season. The club plays its home games in the Stavros Mavrothalassitis Stadium, which was renovated in 2005 and has a capacity of 12,000. In 2007 Egaleo was relegated to the second Greek league and was passed through to fourth division in the following three years.

After Egaleo's basketball department, founded in 1956, only played in the fourth Greek league in 2001, the club managed to move up to the A1 Ethniki within just six years under the coach Dimitrios Karvelas . The main guarantee for Egaleo's performance was the consistency that the Athens club relied on. After three seasons in the first division, the club was relegated to the A2 Ethniki in 2009 and the B-League in 2010.
