Filling finish

The filling finish is a finish that is rarely used except for special fabrics .

It is a non-washable or only partially washable finish for cotton fabrics ( bed linen ) and quilted fabrics . The fabrics are soaked with solutions that deposit solid bodies such as starch, fats and (mineral) Chinaclay ( Chinese clay or kaolin ) in finely divided form to simulate a higher volume of goods with more shine and grip in the fabric. The bodies do not enter into any chemical bond with the fiber. The fillers are fixed with synthetic resins for wash-resistant filling finishes .

The filling finish is still used for special purposes, for example for bookbinding linen . (As of 1997)
