Quilted fabric
Quilted fabrics are two or three-layer multi - textiles that consist of at least one upper fabric, one lower fabric and one stitching seam. Due to their lighter weight, they have almost completely replaced the previous winter fabrics made of wool or plaid lining.
With two-layer upper fabrics, there is always a fleece on the back , the outside of which is thermally bonded or has been coated with an adhesive so that a third layer (a lining ) can be omitted. In a high-quality and particularly hard-wearing version, this is done with a laminated lining. This is particularly common for linings that have been sewn in or that have been sewn in with the back facing the outer fabric, with an absorbent back and a highly stretchable outer fabric for cross-country clothing .
Three-layer quilted fabrics consist of an outer fabric and a lower fabric, which are connected by a quilted seam, with a filling material in between. The quilted seams can be sold on pre-fabricated lengths of fabric, or the fleece is applied afterwards and according to the cut according to the clothing in a so-called hanging incorporation .
In addition to the normal lengthways and cross stitching, there are many variants: diagonal, geometric or rhombus effects, beaded accented collars and pockets or a complete waiver of externally visible stitching ( inner stitching ).
The outer fabrics must be precisely matched to the filling material, for example, they must be feather- and down-proof, also to prevent the stylus hair effect of the filler fibers from penetrating at the seams, through the lining or the outer fabric. Even so, the equipment has to be soft and flowing and not stiff and hard. Soft fleeces from 40 g / m² can be siliconized in the immersion process and thus made water-repellent. Filling materials can include: down , fiberfill , fiberfill fleece or solid fleece webs. Since quilted fabrics are mainly clothing for thermal and weather protection, they must be impregnated to be weatherproof , made of climate material or additionally provided with moisture barrier membranes .
In addition to poplin and gabardine , chinted , waxed , oiled or coated fabrics as well as impregnated, washed natural silk , canvas , light loden , polyamide taffeta, antigliss , but also pouring , down percale and ticking are used as outer fabrics . In addition to these mainly classic upper materials, the industry has meanwhile developed various finishes and fine fibers for fabrics that are mostly lighter and clearly superior to previous ones in certain properties.
