Lining (textile)
In textile technology, lining is a fabric that is attached to the inside of clothing by sewing or quilting . According to Duden, it means the inner fabric layer of outer clothing .
etymology
The term goes back to the Old High German word vuoter or fuotar and means there lining or sheath . In connection with other Indo-European terms, a protective cover , a covering , can be used as a basic meaning.
nature
According to the German dictionary of the Brothers Grimm, lining consists of “stuff, cloth , leather or smoky work with which a dress, a piece of clothing or even a piece of clothing is or is covered on the inside.” In the universal lexicon of the present and the past , the fabric describes the fabric as "minor substances [...] lining barchent , lining flannel , lining calico , lining canvas , lining taffeta [...]." High -quality material such as silk is still used. A special feature is the warming inner lining made of materials such as wool, quilted fabric or fur . They are often incorporated removable, then usually in addition to the normal lining.
purpose
Lining has the function of "making the inner side of a dress or item of clothing ... more durable, more comfortable and warmer, as well as more delicate." In addition, the clothing lining also has a fashionable aspect in many cases . In addition to clothing, textile linings are also used in hats , suitcases , handbags and other containers.
