Fill image

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With filling pattern is in the heraldry and sigillography a simple image or character understood that to fill open spaces in arms or seal is taken because the main subject is too small or the contours are not full. Simple designs such as stars, moon, crosses or initials are popular as filling images. Also arabesques are suitable as filling pattern. The Regalienfeld was always suitable for this. The embellishment, also known as damascus, is not described in the heraldic shield or field . What is important in seals is the even division of space. Due to misinterpretation, these symbols have often been adopted from the seals in the coat of arms. The reinterpreted meaning is partly questionable, but has enriched the heraldry.
