Fürnkranzmühle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fürnkranzmühle (also Firnkranzmühle ) was a mill on the Großer Kamp in the Lower Austrian Waldviertel , which was blown up during the construction of the Ottenstein reservoir .

history

The mill on the north bank, where the Polansteiges crosses the Kamp, was mentioned in a document as early as 1333 and 1345 as the Reinprechtsbruckermühle . The mill was mentioned as early as 1138 in the Kuenringerritt , a rhymed chronicle of the Zwettl monastery . In 1702 it was acquired by Georg Fügenkranz, to whom the current name is derived, and in 1709 by the Neumeister family, who were expropriated in 1938 as part of the construction of the Döllersheim military training area . The mill had to be cleared by October 1, 1939. In the 17th century, the city of Zwettl used the easily negotiable part of the Polansteig trail and operated a toll station here. There is also a bridge here in old maps.

Situation today

The remains of the Fürnkranzmühle have been flooded by the Ottenstein reservoir since the 1950s. The foundation walls only protrude from the reservoir when the water level is low. Today the bathing area accessible from Mitterreith and the landing stage or the entire section of the reservoir are named after the Fürnkranzmühle.
