Lyubech Princely Day
The Princely Day of Lyubetsch ( Russian Любечский съезд ) was a meeting of the East Slav princes in 1097 in the city of Lyubetsch ( Principality of Chernigov ). Its aim was to end the feudal feuds that were weakening the Kievan Rus against the background of the danger posed by the Polovians . Six of the most important Rurikid princes were present at the Prince's Day. The most important decision that was made on the Prince's Day was the abandonment of the centuries-old succession order ( лествичное право ), according to which the princes changed between the principalities according to the seniority principle . In the future all Rurikid lines kept their lands in permanent possession. This development laid the foundation for the feudal landowners and for the development of alternative centers of power to Kiev .
