Princely summer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The princely summer took place in Pyrmont in the summer of 1681 and was a meeting of high and highest nobles .

history

Count Georg Friedrich von Waldeck , to whose rule Pyrmont also belonged, had further expanded Pyrmont with his healing springs in order to increase the income from Pyrmont. Since the count enjoyed a high political reputation, through his activities as a diplomat and military at several European courts, and as field marshal of the empire , he was able to persuade high nobles to meet in Pyrmont.

Forty princely and royal personalities, including twenty-four ruling heads, gathered in Pyrmont from June 24 to July 21, 1681 for the great political and social event. There were Friedrich Wilhelm, Elector of Brandenburg , Sophie Amalie , the widowed Queen of Denmark, Ernst August , the Duke of Hanover, the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel , plus many members of the north German royal houses.

The big meeting caused a sensation far beyond Germany and promoted spa stays as a social event and also Pyrmont as a spa.
