FASTA algorithm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The heuristic FASTA - algorithm was in 1985 by David J. Lipman and William R. Pearson as FASTP for proteins developed. The program was expanded to nucleotides in 1988 .

FASTA searches for similarities between sequences or compares a given sequence with a sequence database . The sequence data is saved in FASTA format .

The algorithm is used, for example, in the SIMAP project.
