FBI - G-man Bruce Cabot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FBI - G-man Bruce Cabot was a German comic book series with crime stories based on the Whodunit concept from Moewig Verlag , published every four weeks between 1969 and 1971.

On every cover there was a further addition: “In the fight for law and order”. In addition to the individual issues, Moewig also published six FBI anthologies , each with three already published comic books.

The two main characters were FBI inspector Bruce Cabot and Special Agent Patrick O'Hara, who went on a murder hunt as a team in New York. Other consistently appearing people were her shady informant, the so-called "professor", who always had very useful information for her, and Old Bebe Smith, the colored owner of the night club "Paradise", where Cabot always met his informant. Cabot and O'Hara were also supported by Inspector Hood from the Manhattan I Homicide Squad and Phil Cramer, head of the FBI's New York section.

The dramatic stories were characterized by several murders committed in the course of the plot (committed by an unknown perpetrator who was only exposed at the end), with Cabot and O'Hara usually in action-packed situations (such as physical confrontations and shootings until the perpetrator was arrested) ) got. At the same time, it was a matter of course for everyone involved to reach for a cigarette. In contrast to Cabot, O'Hara also had some private life in the comics: his girlfriend Susan Delaware, for whom his investigative work at the FBI often left him with too little time.

When portraying the main characters, the artists relied on recognition: the dark-haired Bruce Cabot was usually seen in a blue suit with a tie, the blonde Patrick O'Hara usually wore a turtleneck under his jacket.

The completed stories, drawn realistically in color, showed a certain resemblance to the successful Jerry Cotton booklet series from Bastei-Verlag .

The stories came from the artists of Studio Giolitti, such as Umberto Sammarini (No. 3, 5, 7, 14, 18-19), Giorgio Cambiotti (No. 1, 9-10, 12, 22), Angelo Torado (No. 4) and Mario Pedrazzi (No. 13).

All cover pictures were drawn by Klaus Dill .

reputation

As Wolfgang J. Fuchs and Reinhold C. Reitberger note in their detailed analysis Comics - Anatomie eines Massenmediums (1973), FBI - G-man Bruce Cabo t at the time could be seen as a contrast to the comics published by Moewig at the same time (such as the one with an erotic touch Science fiction series Uranella or the children's magazine Plop! ). Moewig's comic book series FBI - G-man Bruce Cabot was at the time of its publication the only ongoing independent and realistic German crime comic series. Accordingly, the publisher sometimes advertised on the back of the booklet with the sentence: "Ask for the only CC that exists in Germany: the crime comic FBI!"

Eight issues of the series were reprinted in Norway (as FBI - Med G-man Bruce Cabot ) and Sweden (as Razzia - Med G-man 33 Bob Kelly ). There was also a Spanish adaptation.
