history

On December 7, 1945, FC Altstätten was created at the founding meeting. In the 1951/52 season, the club achieved its first promotion to the third division. After some relegations and re-ascents, he was promoted to the 2nd division in the 1971/72 season. In the 1972/73 season they narrowly missed the promotion round to the first division: they reached second place behind FC Rorschach. A year later in the 1973/74 season they were group winners, which allowed FC Altstätten to participate in the promotion round for the first division. There they won a 2-2 draw at FC Wil. At home, however, they lost 1: 2, which meant that FC Altstätten remained in the second division. In the autumn of 1974, FC St. Gallen hosted the 4th main round of the Swiss Cup in Altstätten. The club was clearly defeated by FC St. Gallen with 1: 8. In the 1978/79 season you were allowed to take part in the promotion round to the first division again. They defeated FC Armonia Lugano and thus FC Altstätten was represented in the first division in the following season. In the second season in the 1st division, they already played for promotion to the National League B. On July 1, 1981, promotion to the NLB was sealed with the win against Stade Lausanne . This is the greatest coup in the history of FC Altstätten so far. After only one season in the second highest football league in Switzerland, they were relegated back to the first division. In the 1993/94 season he was relegated to the 2nd division and only one year later in the 1994/95 season was relegated to the 3rd division. In 1997/98, the FC Altstätten managed to return to the second division. In the 1998/99 season the relegation did not succeed and they found themselves back in the 3rd division. In the 1999/2000 season, however, they were immediately promoted to the second division. For the 2004/05 season they qualified for the 1st main round in the Swiss Cup, where they lost 4-1 at home to AC Bellinzona after taking the lead in the meantime. In the 2005/06 season, FC Altstätten was promoted to the 2nd interregional league, which was then the fourth-highest league in Switzerland.

In the Swiss Cup 2013/14 , FC Altstätten lost in the first main round to FC Wohlen from the Challenge League with 0: 5.
