Swiss Cup 2012/13

The 89th Swiss Cup was held from August 14, 2013 to April 21, 2014. The defending champion was the Grasshopper Club Zurich . In the final, FC Zurich was able to secure their eighth title with a 2-0 after extra time against last year's finalists FC Basel .

The mode

Ten clubs in the Raiffeisen Super League and 9 clubs in the Brack.ch Challenge League qualified directly for the Swiss Cup. In addition, 21 clubs from the 1st league (10 from Promotion and 11 from Classic ), 10 clubs from the 2nd interregional league and 14 clubs from the amateur leagues joined them. They had to qualify for the Swiss Cup in regional competitions.

FC Vaduz from the Challenge League was not eligible to play , as this club takes part in the Liechtenstein Cup , as were the U21 teams from the 1st division promotion . Furthermore, all other reserve teams were also excluded from the cup. If a second team wins a regional cup, the first team advances. If the first team is already qualified, the starting place goes to the finalists of the regional cup.

It was played in a knockout system. Each round must normally take place within a maximum of two days. The venue for the final was Bern.

1/32 finals (August 14, 17 and 18, 2013): 64 teams, the winners qualify for the 1/16 finals.

1/16 finals (14/15 September 2013): 32 teams, the winners qualify for the round of 16.

Round of 16 (November 9, 10 and 14, 2013): 16 teams, the winners qualify for the quarter-finals.

Quarter-finals (December 4, 2013, February 5, 2014): 8 teams, the winners are qualified for the semi-finals.

Semi-finals (March 26, 2014): 4 teams, the winners qualify for the final.

Final (April 21, 2014, Easter Monday): The winner wins the 89th Swiss Cup.

Tournament summary

In the first round , three top division teams already expressed difficulties with their opponents. The Grasshopper Club Zurich sat as reigning cup winner against third-tier SC Kriens on a tight 1: 0 by.
