The FC Köniz is a Swiss football club from Köniz in the canton of Bern and the biggest club in the community. The first team currently plays in the Promotion League , the third division of the Swiss Football Association.

history

FC Köniz was founded on July 1, 1933.

In the years 1977 , 1978 and 1984 FC Köniz participated in the rise of games in the National League B part.

In the summer of 2011 they began to sign former national league players, including Carlos Varela . In the following winter other well-known names changed, u. a. Miguel Portillo , in the Bernese suburb. At the same time ten players left the club because they did not want to switch to the second team. In the previous season, FC Köniz had to fight interregionally to stay in the 2nd league , but the team was able to celebrate promotion in the summer of 2012. The second ascent in a row followed in 2013. In the years 2013/14 and 2014/15 they finished fourth and second two seasons in a row and thus narrowly missed promotion to the Challenge League . FC Köniz has been in the Swiss Cup since 2013/14 , where they were able to reach at least the round of 16 every time. In 2015/16, FC Köniz advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Grasshopper Club Zurich 3-1 in the second round .
