The Promotion League was held for the fifth time, of which the third time under the current name.
The sixteen clubs in the Promotion League each competed twice against each opponent, once in the home stadium and once away. In total, each team played 30 games. The top-ranked team that was not a U-21 team rose to the Challenge League at the end of the season. Since FC Le Mont-sur-Lausanne voluntarily withdrew into the amateur field at the end of the season , instead of the two last-placed teams, only the last-placed team was relegated to the first division .

1st league - promotion games
In two rounds, the two best teams from each of the three groups in the 1st league and the two best thirds in the group determine two promoted teams to the Promotion League. Only one U-21 team is allowed to take part in the promotion games, as a maximum of four U-21 teams in the Promotion League have already allocated three places.
Intermediate round
The first legs were played on May 31, 2017, the second legs on June 3. The matches did not have to be drawn because the regulations stipulate which teams meet.
