1st league - promotion games
A maximum of four U-21 teams can play in the Promotion League. Accordingly, a maximum of as many U-21 teams take part in the promotion games to the Promotion League as there are free places. In two rounds, the two best teams from each of the three groups in the 1st league and the two best thirds in the group determine two promoted teams to the Promotion League.
Intermediate round
The first legs will be played on June 1, 2016, the second legs on 4/5. June. The matches did not have to be drawn because the regulations stipulate which teams meet.

Barrage
Since bankruptcy proceedings have been opened against FC Biel-Bienne , their starting place in the Promotion League has to be filled again. The option of not relegating FC St. Gallen II (15th place, Promotion League) was discarded, as Grasshopper Club Zurich II, due to the restriction of the U-21 teams to four teams, only thanks to their relegation was allowed to participate in the promotion games. Instead, a third team is promoted from the first division. For this purpose, the defeated two teams of the promotion round competed against each other on June 16, 2016 in a barrage game on neutral terrain ( Düdingen ).
