history
The Krontal sports complex was inaugurated on May 21, 1911 and was probably built partly on the site of the former St. Gallen Velorennbahn . The first grandstand was built in 1913 in slave labor , but it was torn down by a storm. In 1914, a stable wooden grandstand was built for CHF 22,567.95 . The wooden grandstand from 1914 burned down on October 13, 1958 and was replaced by a new grandstand in 1960. The stadium record of 10,500 spectators dates from November 22, 1970 on the occasion of the NLB city derby against FC St. Gallen (0: 2). The Krontal Stadium was extensively renovated in 2005 and 2006 and renamed the Paul Grüninger Stadium on May 20, 2006 in honor of St. Gallen's Paul Grüninger .
