The Swiss sports club BSC Old Boys Basel (OB) was founded in 1894 under the name FC Old Boys Basel .

In 1922 a swimming section was founded, which later merged with other Basel clubs to form the Swimming Club of both Basels . From 1927 tennis was also part of the club's offer. In 1935 this section split off to form the Old Boys tennis club , now Roger Federer's home club .

The Schützenmatte stadium in Basel is the home stadium of the Old Boys. Originally it was the Margarethenwiese. But the association had to look for a new home because of the construction of the IWB , the industrial works of Basel.

Four years after it was founded, the name of the Old Boys was adapted and adapted by a newly founded football club: Today, however, the BSC Young Boys is far better known and more successful than the Old Boys Basel.

History and name

In 1876 the gymnastics teacher at the then secondary school, Adolf Glaz, founded the secondary school gymnastics club. In 1893 he introduced his students to the new football game. As a result, during the summer and autumn vacation of 1893, some members of the club met regularly on the gymnasium by the viaduct to play football. (This gymnasium was roughly where the zoo parking lot is today.) On December 10, 1893, the first soccer match between the Realschüler gymnastics club and the newly founded FC Basel , the FC Basel, took place in the Landhof Won 2-0.

When the students finished school, they could no longer be members of the student association. That is why they founded their own football club in 1894. Since they founded the club because they had become too old for the school club, they called the new club the "Old Boys".
