Eren Derdiyok (born June 12, 1988 in Basel ) is a Swiss football player .

Career

Club career

Eren Derdiyok's Kurdish parents come from Tunceli ( Kurdish Dêrsim ); he therefore also has Turkish citizenship . They are Alevis like him . From the age of four he played for the Basel soccer club BSC Old Boys Basel , for which he also played in the 2005 Cup against FC Basel and scored a goal. In 2006 he moved to FC Basel and has since played in the Swiss Super League .

On April 6, 2008 Derdiyok won the Swisscom Cup with FC Basel and thus his first title. He played from the start and scored 1-0 in the 31st minute. He was replaced during the break.

For the 2009/10 season Derdiyok moved to Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga, where he made his debut on the first day of the season and scored a goal straight away. As a representative for the long-term injured Patrick Helmes he was able to prevail against Theofanis Gekas and with his good performances he played a part in the autumn championship of Leverkusen. As a result, he remained a regular even after Helmes' recovery. In the end, Bayer missed qualifying for the Champions League. In his second year Derdiyok was part of the first team again for a long time, but was increasingly used as a substitute in the second half of the season. With 32 appearances, he was by far the most frequently used striker of the team that was runner-up at the end of the 2010/11 season .

For the 2012/13 season Derdiyok moved to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2016.

However, his performance and that of many other 1899 professionals suffered from the high demands and finally he was demoted to so-called "training group 2" by the new coach Gisdol with several professionals from the first team. On August 30, 2013 Derdiyok finally returned to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on loan until the end of the 2013/14 season .

For the 2014/15 season Derdiyok moved to the Turkish Super Lig to Kasımpaşa Istanbul . Here he tore a cruciate ligament during a training session in July 2014 and was out for almost the entire season as a result. It was only at the end of April 2015 that he made his competitive debut for Kasımpaşa with a two-minute stint in the league game against Çaykur Rizespor .

In the summer of 2016 Derdiyok switched to the Turkish record champions Galatasaray Istanbul and signed a three-year contract there. In his first competitive game he won the Turkish Supercup with the yellow-reds and in his first league appearance he scored the winning goal against Karabükspor in the 90th minute of the game. In the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons Derdiyok became Turkish champions with Galatasaray. His contract was not extended for the 2019/20 season.

On June 10, 2019 Derdiyok signed a two-year contract with Göztepe Izmir . For the second half of the season he left Göztepe Izmir and moved to Uzbekistan to Paxtakor Tashkent .

National team

On January 24, 2008 Derdiyok got his first appearance under Köbi Kuhn for the Swiss senior team in the 1: 2 defeat on February 6 against England at Wembley Stadium . On his debut, he scored his first goal for the national team in the 57th minute to equalize 1-1. At the European Championships in 2008 in Austria and Switzerland, he was in the Swiss squad and came to three missions and was able to show with 2 assists .

On May 26, 2012, Derdiyok scored three goals in a surprising 5-3 win over the German national team , the first Swiss win against the Germans since 1956.
