Here he also played his first games in the men's division in the Regionalliga Nord and in the Regionalliga Nordost for the second team .

In January 2013 he moved to Breisgau for SC Freiburg , who also used him in his U19 . For the 2013/14 season , the striker played for the second team in the Regionalliga Südwest for the first time .

On April 5, 2014 (29th matchday) in the 0-2 defeat in the away game against VfB Stuttgart , Philipp made his Bundesliga debut when he came on for Felix Klaus in the 90th minute of the game . At that time there were eight players from the Freiburg football school on the pitch with him. On May 23, 2014 he signed a professional contract with SC Freiburg. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on February 15, 2015 (21st match day) in a 2-0 win in the away game against Hertha BSC with the goal of the final score in the 52nd minute. At the end of the second division season 2015/16 , the attacker rose directly to the Bundesliga with Freiburg as champions after relegation a year earlier.

For the 2017/18 season , Philipp moved to league competitor Borussia Dortmund , where he signed a contract that will run until 2022. With an estimated transfer fee of 20 million euros, it was the most expensive transfer in the Freiburg club's history to date. He made his competitive debut for Dortmund on August 5, 2017 in the DFL Supercup against FC Bayern Munich , which BVB lost on penalties . He made his first league game on August 19, 2017, the first match day of the season, when he played for the full time in Dortmund's 3-0 win against VfL Wolfsburg . With the transfer of the new captain Marco Reus to his favorite position behind the top and the commitment of the striker Paco Alcácer , Philipp was mainly a substitute under head coach Lucien Favre in his second season in Dortmund. In August 2019, Philipp won his first title with the club when the double winner of the previous season, FC Bayern Munich, was defeated 2-0 in the DFL Supercup .

At the beginning of August 2019, Philipp moved to the Russian first division club Dynamo Moscow .
