Yassine Chikhaoui ( Arabic ياسين الشيخاوي, DMG Yāsīn aš-Šīḫāwī ; * September 22, 1986 in Radès ) is a Tunisian soccer player who played for FC Zurich and the Tunisian national soccer team from 2007 to 2015 . He is a midfielder and was part of the Tunisian squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany . His greatest successes included the Tunisian championship in 2007, the CAF Cup victory in 2006 with Étoile Sportive du Sahel , as the youngest captain in the club's history and the award for Tunisian Footballer of the Year 2006.

Career

Yassine Chikhaoui was watched by many top European clubs in late 2007. FCZ President Ancillo Canepa had announced negotiations with FC Bayern Munich about a transfer.

The further course of his career was largely marked by injuries. Among other things, he missed almost the entire 2008/09 season.

In December 2013 it was reported that FC Zurich would not extend the contract that expired in the summer. Not least thanks to his strong performance in the 2014 Swiss Cup final, the club's management decided to extend his contract after all. In July 2014, Chikhaoui was even promoted to captain.

Chikhaoui was already known in Switzerland as the “football god” and “pearl Tunisienne”. For many, he is one of the most gifted footballers who have ever played in Switzerland.
