Swiss Football Regional Cups 2016/17 ↓
|
The 92nd Swiss Cup (Helvetia Schweizer Cup) was held from August 10, 2016 to May 25, 2017. The defending champion was FC Zurich , who failed in the quarter-finals at FC Basel . In the final, FC Basel was able to secure their twelfth title with a 3-0 win against FC Sion.
mode
The winner of the Swiss Cup was known after six rounds (1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 finals, final).
Nine clubs from the Super League and all ten teams from the Challenge League were directly qualified for the Swiss Cup. In addition, 22 clubs from the first division (9 clubs from the Promotion League and 13 clubs from the 1st league ), 9 clubs from the 2nd interregional league and 14 clubs from the amateur leagues qualified in pre-qualifications and regional eliminations.
Although FC Vaduz plays in the Raiffeisen Super League, it takes part in the Liechtenstein Cup and is therefore not eligible to play in the Swiss Cup. In addition, the U-21 teams from the Promotion League are not eligible to play, as are all other reserve teams. If a reserve team has won a regional elimination, the first team will be awarded the starting place in the Swiss Cup, unless the first team is already qualified for the competition. Then the final opponent of the regional elimination receives the starting place.
The Swiss Cup will be played in the knockout system . As a rule, each round is played within two days.
- 1st round (10-15 August 2016): 64 teams, the winners are qualified for the 1/16 finals.
- 2nd round (September 16-18, 2016): 32 teams, the winners are qualified for the round of 16.
- Round of 16 (October 26 & 27, 2016): 16 teams, the winners are qualified for the quarter-finals.
- Quarter-finals (March 1st & 2nd, 2017): 8 teams, the winners are qualified for the semi-finals.
- Semi-finals (April 5, 2017): 4 teams, the winners qualify for the final.
- Final (May 25, 2017) at the Stade de Genève in Lancy: The winner wins the 92nd Swiss Cup.
The cup winner receives the right to start in the group stage of the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League . If the cup winner has already qualified for the UEFA Champions League or its qualifying rounds via the Super League , the third in the Super League final table moves from qualification to the group phase and the fifth receives the free place in the qualification as an additional participant.
