Career
societies
Beginning in Portugal
Carlitos played for the Portuguese amateur club Amora FC until 2002 and then moved to third division club GD Estoril . For Estoril, Carlitos completed 72 league games in two years and made it through to the first Portuguese league with the club through two consecutive promotions .
He was then committed for 500,000 euros from the top club Benfica Lisbon , but could not prevail in the following period and was awarded to the league rivals Vitória Setúbal after his first season at Benfica in the winter break of 2005/06 .
Change to Switzerland
For the 2006/07 season , Benfica loaned him to the Swiss first division club FC Sion , for whom he scored eight goals in 26 games. In the summer of 2007, the midfielder moved to league rivals FC Basel for 1.5 million euros . The transfer was preceded by weeks of disputes between Benfica, Sion and Basel due to a complicated situation of transfer rights.
Move to Germany
In the summer of 2010, however, his contract with FC Basel was not extended and so Carlitos was without a club for a few weeks before he signed a two-year contract with the German Bundesliga club Hannover 96 on August 1, 2010 .
In his Bundesliga debut on the first match day of the 2010/11 season against Eintracht Frankfurt , Carlitos tore a cruciate ligament after just 33 seconds and was therefore out of the first half of the season. On March 11, 2011 (26th matchday) he made his comeback in the away game of the 96 at 1. FC Cologne .
Overall, Carlitos only played eight Bundesliga games and five games for the second team due to various injuries.
Return to Portugal
At the end of August he moved to his former club GD Estoril Praia , which just managed to get promoted to the Sagres League .
National team
Carlitos took part in the 2004 U-21 European Championship with his country's U-21 national team, finishing third after beating Sweden in the small final. He scored the 3-2 winning goal in the 114th minute of extra time.
